What a hellscape we now live in.

Everything is a mess.

I am a tech writer often tasked to write tutorials on a variety of social media platforms. Yet I am in the throes of growing discontent for everything Meta, among other things. I’m trying to see how easy it would be to ditch Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and Whatsapp (I don’t really use Threads) and switch to other services and I’m finding it very difficult. Everyone I know and love, I talk to on Messenger. Instagram is my stress reliever. Facebook is a trash heap so I don’t mind leaving it behind, but I’ve got decades worth of memories on it. I basically used it as a baby book for my two kids.

I was hoping to revive my travel newsletter on Substack this year, but now I’m hearing from trusted colleagues that it might be a problematic platform for someone anti-right wing such as myself. I’m honestly not informed enough to decide to completely ditch the platform, so I guess in the mean time I’ll word vomit over here.

The idea of logging onto the usual social apps is actually pretty stressful right now. The barage of bad news is taking a toll on my mental health, so to avoid doomscrolling, I’m trying to keep myself busy through other means. Listening to audiobooks. Playing nonstop solitaire on my phone. Revamping this website. So far it’s working.

Let’s see how it goes.
